Buyer questions

Surplus wire buying questions

What is purchased, how to identify it, which photos help, and how pickup is judged. Straight answers, no pricing promises.

What we purchase

What cable is purchased?

Copper and aluminum building wire, THHN, THWN, THWN-2, XHHW and XHHW-2, MC and AC cable, tray cable, VFD cable, TC and PLTC, SER, SEU, URD and USE-2, bare and insulated copper, grounding wire, welding cable, SOOW and flexible cable, control and instrumentation cable, communication and shielded cable, fire alarm and low voltage cable, and 5 kV, 8 kV, 15 kV, 25 kV, 35 kV and 69 kV and above cable in XLPE, EPR and concentric neutral constructions.

What is out of scope?

Transformers, switchgear, breakers, MCCs, generators, chillers, bus plugs and general machinery. We buy wire and cable, not equipment.

Do you buy new surplus as well as used?

Yes. New surplus, unused overstock, cancelled-project inventory and decommissioned cable are all considered. Condition changes the offer, not the eligibility.

Identifying wire

How do I identify wire on a reel?

Start with the reel tag: it usually lists the construction, size, voltage and footage. If the tag is gone, read the print on the jacket, which carries the same core facts, and photograph it close up.

What if the footage is unknown?

Estimate from the wraps on the barrel and the reel diameter, and say it is an estimate. We confirm on pickup rather than rejecting the lot.

How can I tell copper from aluminum?

The jacket print or tag will say copper, CU, aluminum or AL. Aluminum is also much lighter than a copper reel of the same size.

Photos and paperwork

What photos do you need?

A wide shot of the reels, a close shot of each reel tag, and a close shot of the jacket print. Add any damage photos so the offer reflects reality.

Do I need to weigh the reels?

No. An approximate weight helps with logistics, not valuation. The tag and footage matter more.

Can I send photos without filling in every field?

The form needs a name, phone, email, city, ZIP, metal and wire type. Everything else can be estimated or left blank, and photos are optional.

Pickup, freight and payment

How is shipping or pickup evaluated?

By distance, weight and access. A pallet of reels on a dock in Nashville is a simple pickup; heavy medium voltage reels in a plant with an escort requirement need more planning. Large lots far from a route may ship instead.

Do you charge for pickup?

No. Pickup is part of the offer for lots we purchase. Any logistics cost is reflected in the offer, not billed separately afterwards.

When is payment made?

Terms are confirmed in writing with the offer, before anything is loaded. Ask for them up front if they matter to your accounting process.
